Archaeological searches, near Montclus, dating 1957 allowed to put in evidence the presence of the man to Montclus since time age-old: discovery of a stratification going from 8000 in 2000 before J-C. Presence of tribes of sedentary fishermen.

 

The medieval village existed before XIIIth century. Castrum Montecluso, such is the Latin shape contained in a document of 1275. His position on a hill surrounded with mountains he was worth his name.
In 1263 was based to Montclus one abbey in the name of Mons Serratus.

There are the vestiges of a former monastery troglodytic Benedictine (vast room dug in the rock) in the locality " Les Beaumes " which was later of use as chapel to the Knight Templars (XII and XIIIth centuries).
In 1275 was built a castle a square donjon of a big height of which there is.

 

Later was built the Bridge of the Mill stepping over Cèze which as it is said rolled golden glitter. Admirable site, beautiful rural houses and narrow alleys give to this village a cachetexceptionnel.
